Gisborne may best be considered what New Zealand is to the rest of the world – pristine, stunningly beautiful, bountiful and undiscovered. Gisborne plays an ionic role in the New Zealand wine industry, the first and for many years New Zealands largest, commercial wine growing region. Gisborne remains New Zealands 3rd largest wine growing region by volume.

With a wine pedigree earnt through rich, fruit driven Chardonnays Gisborne is now acclaimed for the most diverse range of varietals in New Zealand – varieties such as Albarino, Chardonnay, Gewuztraminer, Merlot, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Viognier and many more – and all of them fantastic!

Gisborne is the first city in the world to see the sun each day. While a ‘cool climate’ we receive amongst the highest sunshine hours and temperatures in the country.

Boasting distinctive sub-regions across the river valley and foot hills, our soils are fertile yet free draining. Combined with even rainfall distribution our soils do not require irrigation or fertiliser – “Dryland farming” making Gisborne the the most naturally sustainable region in New Zealand.
